Brainport for Eachother

Equal opportunities for everyone. That is the goal of Brainport voor Elkaar. And Eindhoven University of Technology is happy to contribute to this. We try to contribute to this through volunteer work, social innovation, programs that support good employers and the Workplace Vitality Hub.

Froukje

I started doing MASt last year to give something back to the city of Eindhoven. As a student, you live in such a different world than the other residents that after living here for a year, I still knew very little about the city. Because you come into contact with so many different types of people, you get to know the city from countless perspectives. From the homeless to lonely elderly people, Eindhoven means something different to everyone. With MASt we do not raise millions of euros or solve all the world's problems, but we try to help people in an accessible way. This year I have noticed that the smallest things, such as writing a Christmas card or giving a speech, make all the difference.

Valerie

I am currently on the board of Social Heroes and our goal is to connect students with the city on a social level. My own interest in volunteering arose through the organization of Liberation 040. There we had a lot of contact with parties such as veterans, but we also had an exhibition to break the stigma around homelessness. During my time at Social Heroes we also sold candles during the Win在线黑料门rdorp for the homeless, but we could also ask questions to ex-homeless people. What I find special about volunteering is the unexpected connection you make and the experiences/stories you hear from their lives, which allows you to learn a lot from others.

Joep

My name is Joep and this year I am part of the volunteer board of Nacht van de Fooi Eindhoven. Our goal is to raise as much money as possible for charity. The charity changes every year and this year it is the renovation of a primary school in Malawi, an African country and one of the poorest countries in the world. To raise money we organize various events, including a lottery, a party and several sponsored walks at Dutch primary schools. The latter would not have been possible without the help of Social Heroes. The fact that the board is voluntary does not mean that I do not benefit from it. Being a volunteer gives me pleasure in several ways, for example because others show respect for what I do.
